The positioning of players on the green is strictly regulated by Law 12 to prevent interference and maintain the integrity of the sport. Players at the mat-end who are not delivering must stand at least 1 metre behind the mat. At the head-end, players not in control of play must stand behind the jack. If the jack is in the ditch, Law 12.1.2.3 mandates that players stand on the surrounds of the green (the bank). It is essential to avoid making noise, moving, or casting shadows over the head while an opponent is delivering a bowl. These rules of etiquette ensure a professional atmosphere and allow the active bowler total focus.
